The Council of Bishops has called a Special Session of the General Conference of The United Methodist Church to be held February 23-26, 2019 in St. Louis, Missouri. The purpose will be to receive and act on a report from the Commission on a Way Forward based on the recommendations of the Council of Bishops. The 32-member Commission was authorized by General Conference 2016 and appointed by the Council of Bishops to examine paragraphs in The Book of Discipline concerning human sexuality and exploring options to strengthen the unity of the church.

General Conference is the top policy-making body of The United Methodist Church. The General Conference 2020 will take place May 5-15, 2020, at the Minneapolis Convention Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Living Faithfully: Human Sexuality and The United Methodist Church

This is the subtitle of a 4-week book study Pastor Cherie will be offering beginning January 9, to provide information about this topic before our denomination's special General Conference in late February of 2019. At that time, delegates from around the world will gather in St. Louis, MO to discern 'a way forward' after years of divisive debate on United Methodist policies around sexuality. The decisions this special General Conference makes will affect people and churches throughout our denomination.

This study is intended to help us be better informed about next steps for our denomination, using a book and other materials about the General Conference gathering that explain the spectrum of thought on these issues and how/why United Methodists have arrived at conflicting opinions in this area. The book is entitled Living Faithfully and costs $8. Please sign up by Pastor Cherie's office to choose a time slot to attend the study.
